New Store Opening Near Empty Restaurant

furniture storeMEDFORD, Ore. — A retail area in Medford is getting a new addition, more than a year after a popular restaurant chain closed.

The Medford Site Plan and Architectural Commission approved a plan to build a new furniture store near the intersection of Court Street and Riverside Avenue. That area is still home to the empty Old Farmhouse Restaurant, whose entire chain went out of business suddenly in 2013. The furniture store would be built next door, and it would mean the Dutch Bros. coffee stand in the same parking lot would have to move a few feet to make room.

Members of the commission were concerned that the new store would cause traffic problems because of long lines at Dutch Bros, but the panel ultimately signed off on the plan.

The owner of the property would not reveal the tenant of the new furniture store.
