MEDFORD, Ore. — A new pregnancy test is hitting the store shelves today. The do it yourself home pregnancy test not only tells a woman if she are pregnant, but it will also tell her how far along she is.
The new ClearBlue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator is the first of its kind. It first launched in Europe in 2008, and was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in December 2012.
The standard pregnancy test measures the levels of a hormone called hCG. The new pregnancy test not only tests for the hormone, but it also measures how much of the hormone is produced. This allows it to predict how far along the pregnancy is.
According to the company, the test is 99 percent accurate at detecting pregnancy from the day a woman’s expected period, and about 93 percent accurate in estimating the number of weeks.
