New Fire Starts Despite Heavy Rains

New Fires

MEDFORD, Ore. – Heavy rains over the weekend helped suppression efforts on lightning-induced fires around the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, but two new fires were still discovered.

Crews responded to the Winchuck Fire on the Gold Beach Ranger District, about a ¼ of an acre in size, as well as a fire on the High Cascades Ranger District which is contained at this time.

Fire personnel continue to monitor the existing contained fires and also remain on alert for any new starts.

Officials would like to remind residents that although some good rains have moved through the region recently, dead fuels and dry vegetation still are vulnerable to ignitions.
