GRANTS PASS, Ore. — The man who stopped breathing and died during a burglary early Tuesday morning has been identified as Jasen Robert Lewis, 33, of Grants Pass. According to Oregon State Police, Lewis was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants, including a felony warrant for Fail to Appear – Dangerous Drugs issued out of Josephine County Circuit Court dated on Jan. 13, 2014. OSP said an autopsy is scheduled to confirm the cause and manner of death and those results should be out by the end of the week.
On Tuesday morning, Oregon State Police Criminal Investigation Division detectives responded to report of a burglary in progress at Woodworx, LLC. located at 2245 Harbeck Rd., south of Grants Pass. An employee was being dropped off at work by his father when they saw the male suspect, Lewis, had forced entry into the business. Both individuals went inside the business and engaged in a physical scuffle with the suspect, they detained him and notified police. But, a few minutes later another call was made to 9-1-1, Lewis had stopped breathing. CPR was performed, but he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel when they arrived on scene.
Next of kin has been notified and OSP is continuing the investigation, pending the arrival of the autopsy results.
