Officials confirm six fires are burning in remote backcountry within or near the Red Buttes Wilderness on the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
Five of those fires are located within the Red Buttes Wilderness, the largest of which is the Hello Fire estimated at over 10 acres. Siskiyou Rappellers and smokejumpers are working today to contain the fires, establishing containment lines. Officials say five teams of 20 person hand crews will work on these containment lines, with the assistance of 2 Oregon Department of Forestry helicopters providing water bucket drops.
Fire officials say the use of mechanized equipment has been authorized for use within the wilderness to suppress these fires. Additional ground and aerial resources have been ordered.
