Mudslide Near Rogue River

MudslideROGUE RIVER, Ore. — It’s hot and dry out there, but even that wasn’t enough to prevent a dangerous mudslide near Rogue River.

The Rogue River Police Department said an irrigation canal breached near the intersection of Foothill and Westbrook.

A mudslide, about 25-yards wide, rolled down a hillside, slamming into a truck heading north, into Grants Pass. Everyone in the truck was fine.

The mud is about 4-inches thick, but crews closed off the area, due to a downed a power line. People in the area say they’ve never seen anything like it

“There a 2 foot pipe up there going underground branches go stuck in and the water overflowed,” resident said Jon Magerly.

Witnesses say the irrigation canal was blocked by debris. Foothill will be closed, at the intersections of sienna and Westbrook, through Thursday. Crews aren’t sure how long it will take to clear the area.

Thank you so much for posting that, I live out Wards Creek Rd in Rogue River and attend the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses almost right above where it happened. I only heard a very small part about it on the news last night and wondered if my friend who owns the property, the Terrell’s were okay. Besides, tonight I will attend a congregation meeting there. Glad there were no injuries and everyone is alright!
