MEDFORD, Ore. — Mount Ashland is now sitting under a few inches of brand new snow, and local ski shops say the winter weather already has customers showing up.
This weekend’s snowfall was the 5th for Mount Ashland this season. The Rogue Ski Shop says the first real ski-able snowfall of the season is likely about a month away, but a few early inches gets people spending money on gear and tune-ups.
The shop’s owner says there are still no signs as far as what kind of ski season it will be, but he’s hoping for something in the middle.
“I just always pray for average. So, December 10th, 15th opening. And the other thing I think would be really cool is if things open when kids are out of school,” said Rogue Ski Shop co-owner Bob Matthews.
Mount Ashland says they’ll be prepared to open right after Thanksgiving if conditions allow. This week they’re laying gravel on the new parking lot expansion, and on Thursday they’ll be hiring seasonal labor for the year.
