MPD Facility Size Hampering Efforts

MEDFORD, Ore. — Cities with a population size half of Medford have larger size police departments.

City officials are now reviewing a plan to build a new Medford police facility  Cities like Grants Pass, Roseburg and Springfield with smaller population sizes have twice the size, if not larger, facilities for its law enforcement.

For Medford Police, having a smaller facility means the officers do not have the space to properly do their job.

“There are times when we actually interview people in cars because we don’t have enough interview space to interview them in a room. And that’s unacceptable especially when you’re a victim of a person crime,” said Medford Police Chief Tim George

The department says the new facility would cost 18 to 23 million dollars. $37,000 has already been dished out for the design plan.
