ASHLAND, Ore. — Classes at Southern Oregon University start Monday, but students are already arriving on campus.
Freshman are getting a head start, moving in first on Thursday. Athletes and other volunteers helped the first round of students move in.
This year 700 students will be moving into the newest set of dorms, Shasta and McLoughlin Halls. Construction wrapped up on those two eco-friendly buildings late this summer.
Most freshman will be placed in Shasta, while upperclassmen will be staying in McLoughlin. Housing officials say overall, the move into the new dorms is going well.
A new dining hall is also opening. Dining staff anticipate more than 1,000 students will be eating there just on Move-In Day, alone.
SOU housing officials say the next big building project is a recreation center. They plan on breaking ground on that this summer.
