Most Wildfires Closer to Containment

WILDFIRE PROTECTIONMEDFORD, Ore. — Crews watched and waited as the storms moved through, hoping the weather would help, rather than hurt, the firefight in Southern Oregon.

The Douglas Complex reached 100% containment just this week. Fire management has yet to report containment problems created by the storm.

Crews did respond to one lightning started fire near Glide. They quickly put that out with the help of a helicopter.

The Big Windy Complex is now 87% contained. The Whiskey Complex, near Tiller, still has some closures in place, but work has largely moved from fire suppression, to rehabilitation.

Illinois River Road remains closed because of the Labrador Fire, which remains 0% contained.

I was wondering where the smoke is coming from in Merlin, OR today?

    1. NewsWatch 12 Staff says:

Smoke in the Grants Pass/Merlin area is coming from a spot fire out at the Big Windy Complex. The burning area is surrounded by land that has already been burnt, fire officials say. Oregon Department of Forestry says it’s going to let it burn out. Fire officials don’t know how long that will take. They say it’s too dangerous to go to that area to extinguish it because it’s in a canyon. Fire officials say there is no need to be concerned.
