MEDFORD, Ore. — The Centers for Disease Control says more teens are using electronic cigarettes.
In Oregon, there’s no law putting an age limit on the sale of e-cigarettes, but one local company is voluntarily keeping anyone under the age of 18 from buying the product.
A Southern Oregon company produces the flavored liquid going inside of the battery powered devices. EC Blends Electronic Cigarette Store in Medford cards the people purchasing the product. The company is one of the leading manufacturers in the country producing the liquid that goes inside of the e-cigarettes it sells.
Founders say four ingredients go inside of the liquid propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavoring and nicotine. Founders say the product is an adult choice to make and they don’t want children becoming addicted to anything. One local 16-year-old says she’s tried the vapor before and sees other students doing the same.
“Because it’s new and everyone wants to try it to look cool and probably just a learning experience,” said student Mackenzie Pihl.
EC Blends ships nearly half a million bottles of flavoring to all 50 states and 14 countries around the world. The company employs nearly 100 people and they say the demand is so high, they are looking for more people to hire.
On top of that, you can expect to see another EC blends store in Medford on Crater Lake Highway within a month. Another store is coming to Grants Pass in 60 days and the company is also planning on taking over another 6,500 square foot building to keep up with business, on top of the manufacturing place it’s in now on Ross Lane.
