ASHLAND, Ore. — More people are choosing to buy from farmers markets across Oregon and the nation, driving the economy up.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported a 9.6% growth in 2012 of the number of registered farmer markets. Over 7,000 markets operate nationally.
Oregon has 164 registered this year, ranking 15th place across the country. Local growers say they notice more. Economists say farmers markets generate $50 million, 1% of gross sales.
