MEDFORD, Ore. — Several Southern Oregon soldiers are preparing to deploy for an Afghanistan mission later in the summer. On Wednesday night, military officials held a town hall to educate the community about the process.
Local military officers invited community members to the Medford Armory for a brief presentation on the upcoming overseas deployment of a local unit.
Officials say around 300 people from the area will report to their armories later this month for duty, and the unit will be leaving Oregon in Mid-July to head to Fort Hood, Texas. There, they will make final preparations and leave for Afghanistan shortly after that.
The presentation was the second of three town halls in the area, and was open to the public. The final town hall will be on June 12 at 6:30 in Grants Pass.
