Middle School “Hunger Games” Food Drive

HedrixDonationOtsMEDFORD, Ore. — Students from Hedrick Middle School are donating more than 3,000 cans of food to the Salvation Army.

The student council came up with the theme for this year’s food drive after “The Hunger Games” book series. All the students were sectioned off into districts.

The two students who brought in the most cans at the end of the food drive got free tickets to go kart hero. Members of the student council say they feel this year’s theme really inspired students to get involved.

“I think it’s amazing that we do this, I don’t really know any other schools that would do this type of thing, and it just kind of is really special because we get to help out the community in ways that you wouldn’t expect 7th and 8th graders to do,” said 8th grade student Reyna Kirschel.

The student council adviser says the three snow days affected the drive this year. Overall administrators say they’re very impressed with how much the students were able to gather in a short time.

Hello I’m one of the girls who was in the interview from Hedrick Middle School, and my mom was not able to see the video on The Hunger Games food drive that HMS was doing. I was hoping that you could post the section of the news where you did a part on HMS’s food drive. Thank you,

    Emilee L.
