MEDFORD, Ore. — Campaign finances are being scrutinized all across the nation, and on Friday, NewsWatch12 spoke with Oregon U.S. Senator, Jeff Merkley about the issue. He believes that not making candidates disclose who their campaign contributions are coming from can have a profound impact on the nation’s economy.
“The two are connected, because if you have huge special interests that want to export our jobs overseas, pumping secret money into campaigns, then it makes it harder for people that want to get elected to fight for jobs here in America,” the Senator stated.
Senator Merkley supports an act, called the “Disclose Act,” which would order candidates to release all of their information about what he calls, “secret unlimited campaign funds.”
