MEDFORD, Ore. – The man accused of killing a 21-year-old Whitney Heichel has confessed to her murder, according to an affidavit.
The statement from the Clackahams County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Johnathan Holt told investigators he shot Heichel after accepting a ride from her and then threatening her with a gun and forcing her to perform sexual acts. There was a missing persons’ report out for Holt , filed by his wife since he disappeared with a friend’s rental car last year.
One of Whitney’s closest childhood friends goes to SOU and lives in the Rogue Valley. In Whitney’s honor, a vigil is planned for this evening at Donahue Fronhmayer Park in east Medford. The vigil begins at 6:30. Organizers say everyone is welcome.
