MEDFORD, Ore. — Fire officials say flames can race through fields because they’re filled with fuel. It’s dry, and there’s a lot of it.
Medford firefighters say fire season will be here soon. That means Medford residents need to make sure their lawns are mowed and weeds are trimmed. If not, you could get a fine as early as next week.
Un-maintained vegetation will dry out and crews say this causes a significant wildfire threat. The city of Medford’s grass ordinance kicks in on June 1st so any property with grass, weeds, brush, or any like vegetation more than 10 inches tall creates a fire hazard that must be abated.
The exceptions are ornamental shrubs, bushes, or other like vegetation maintained and kept in a landscaped yard or place. Click here for more information.
