MEDFORD, Ore. — People in Medford are celebrating the last weekend before Christmas with the first-ever Medford Ugly Sweater 5k.

The race kicked off Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. on East 8th Street in downtown Medford. More than 400 people registered, which forced the organizer to put a cap on attendance.

The organizer says she started planning while away at college when she realized there weren’t any holiday runs in our area.

“I wanted to come home and just have something fun to do while I was here, so I was like I’m sure there’s an ugly sweater run, we’ll do it, I looked online about 5 months ago, there wasn’t. So I called my mom and I was like, we are gonna put one on,” said Medford Ugly Sweater Run Organizer Kelsey Hicks.

A portion of all proceeds will benefit the Jackson County Foster Parent Association.
