MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford School District will be welcoming Dr. Brian Shumate as the a new superintendent. This comes after Dr. Phil Long fulfilled his final duties on Monday night before his retirement.

Dr. Long sat in for the last night at the Medford School Board meeting. He worked 30 years with the Medford School District, and served as the superintendent for nine years.

Dr. Long’s time as superintendent of the district has been full of ups and downs, dealing with economic hardships, and the Medford teacher strike earlier this year. However, Long also says that he is happy with the decisions he has made and looks forward to the next chapter of his education career.

“It’s kind of like family, and just a transition in the life of a family. I have no regrets. It’s been a great place to work and I’m just really glad I can leave it in good shape,” said Dr. Long.

Dr. Long will take over as principal of Cascade Christian High School starting in the fall.
