MEDFORD, Ore. – Years of planning and months of construction has all lead up to the big opening day of the Medford REI. The retailer will officially be in business this Friday, but on Wednesday a select few got a look inside the new building. Friends and family of the 59 employees working at this store will share a chance to celebrate what they hope will be a great addition to the community.
Over the course of two months, the transition of the 24,000 square foot building has progressed from dry wall to completed fixtures. Officials said in just a matter of five days, nine trucks of merchandise was moved in, including a 105 bikes that staff help assemble and display. This type of collaborative effort is what officials said helped get the store up and running.
REI filled 59 positions, 45 are locals and 9 are previous REI employees from around the country. The store has the same products customers love but include a new design, which includes fixtures made of sustainable materials. The community is invited to join in the opening ceremonies and activities. The first begins on Friday at 10 a.m. and goes through Sunday evening.
