MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford has the highest number of violent crimes in Oregon, according to a new report.
Recently, the CQ Press released city crime rankings based on data from the FBI. The report used the number of reported crimes versus population.
Medford came in 250 out of 432 cities across the nation and last place among Oregon cities of a population of more than 75,000 people. Though Medford may rank low, the police chief says the Medford Police Department is above the national average when it comes to solving crimes.
“We’re usually about 20 to 25 percent above the national average when it comes to a clearance rate, which means we’re effective at what we’re doing,” said Medford Police Chief Tim George.
Beaverton is the safest city in Oregon. The police chief says the rise in drug offenses is causing this uptick in violent crimes.
