MEDFORD, Ore. — Swimmers had to wait just a bit longer before they could hit the pool this summer because of the make-up school day in the Medford School District. This is the third year the Jackson Aquatic Center has been the only public pool open after the Hawthorne Aquatic Center closed down. Since then the city has done it’s best to balance swim lessons, open swims and events. As a result there are 24 percent fewer swim lessons available even with one of the pools permanently closed. The Jackson Aquatic Center see about 28,000 visitors annually and officials say it takes a lot of work to keep the place up and running.
