Police Search for Serial Arsonist

MEDFORD, Ore. — Investigators are searching for a serial arsonist they believe started 8 fires in a year.

Around 6:30 a.m. Friday, fire investigators responded to a house fire on the 1900 block of Stewart Avenue. They quickly learned this fire was arson and they are now asking the public to keep their eyes out for a suspect.

Outside of the home doesn’t look much, but the fire caused most of the damage inside. Investigators say, most likely, this recent fire is by the same person who started seven other arson fires since April 2012.

They say there are consistencies in all 8 fires, in that the flames are all started in vacant homes in the south-west Medford area.

“We think that there’s a reason that they’re located in this area of town. We believe the suspect lives or works somewhere around this area,” explained Lt. Mike Budreau, with the Medford Police.

Medford Police believe this serial arsonist is starting fires during the late hours of the night. They are concerned that this suspect may eventually move onto homes that have people inside.

Medford Police and Fire are working together to investigate these fires. If you have any information on these fires, or notice suspicious activity at night around the south-west Medford area, you’re asked to contact police.

Medford Police has a list of the vacant homes which caught fire and are either ruled either suspicious or confirmed arson:
