Medford Police Donates Armored Vehicle

Armored TruckMEDFORD, Ore. — The Medford Police Department is donating its armored truck to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Police say  that armored truck has been part of the department’s police fleet since 1997. The department isn’t losing money by giving this equipment up. A company called Armored Transport actually donated it to Medford Police. The department is hoping this donation will benefit the whole southern Oregon region by helping the sheriff’s office forward their work.

In December of last year, Medford Police purchased what they call the Bear Cat that the SWAT team uses in high-risk situations.

Medford Police also had another armored truck similar to the one it’s giving to Douglas County. The truck is with the Grants Pass Department of Public Safety. The Clackamas Sheriff’s Office gave that second armored truck to Medford Police.

  1. Duane says:

Why does Medford PD even need an armored truck? Just curious.

  2. Chris says:

    Why not sell it?

Couldn’t the city use the money towards the new rig they already purchased?
