Man Fights Burglar Inside Home

mak,MichaelMEDFORD, Ore. — A Medford man finds a burglar in his kitchen and fights him off to defend his family.

The homeowner spoke exclusively to NewsWatch 12 about the incident. The victim says he was protecting his 11-year-old son who was sleeping in a nearby same room.

This all happened overnight in a home located on the 500 block of south Grape Street. The victim says he was watching TV when he saw a shadow in his kitchen. He went to investigate and saw a man standing there.

Police say that man was 20-year-old Michael Mak. The homeowner says he yelled at him to get out. When he didn’t, the homeowner started punching Mak, which sent the intruder running. The man did not want to show his face on camera, but says he’s lost a sense of security.

“I’m kind of traumatized over it. And my son too, today, he’s wanting to make weapons. And I told him, we’re all right. You got your dad, I’m a pretty good weapon,” he said.

Police found Michael Mak hiding in some nearby bushes. They say Mak broke into the home through a back window. They also found a stolen camera wrapped in a sweatshirt outside and say it belonged to a neighbor nearby.

Mak was lodged in jail on charges of Burglary 1st Degree, Theft 2nd Degree, Assault 4th Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Unlawful Entry into a Motor Vehicle, and 2 counts of Harassment. His bail was set at $41,000.

Spitting in the face of a law enforcement officer is assault isn’t it? And assaulting a cop is a charge that should be added to this case.

“…Michael Brandon Mak, who police say was uncooperative and spit in the officer’s face…”
Allow me to take a shot in the dark…
Michael Mak, probably doesn’t like or trust the Medford Police Department.

  3. Michelle says:

Criminals usually don’t like or trust any police department.

Hi what really gets me is how everyone is so quick to judge him and throw him away…. I know this man I love him to death and he does have his demons do we not all have them tho… He needs drug recovery above all other things and jail or prison isn’t going to help. I know this because this man is the father of my son, he is a good man inside and deserves the chance to find himself in rock court. The slandering his name has got to come to a stop, you may have the right to do all these news casts but karma isn’t nice just keep that in mind.
