Medford Murder Suspect in Court

Homicide SuspectMEDFORD, Ore. — The man accused of stabbing a Medford woman to death appeared in court for the first time on Thursday.

Jose Valencia-Gaona was arraigned on a murder charge a little more than 24 hours after being arrested. That man is charged with the murder of 38-year-old Maria Rodriguez at her apartment on Table Rock Road on Sunday night.

Jose Valencia-Gaona appeared in court on Thursday for his arraignment, where a translator relayed his murder charge. No bail was set, and the preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, September 12th.

He remains in the Jackson County Jail on that murder charge, along with a charge of being in the country illegally. Medford Police arrested him near the railroad tracks on Clark Street on Wednesday Afternoon after searching for Valencia-Gaona for three days.

Police said he and Rodriguez knew each other prior to the attack, but aren’t releasing many details about their relationship.

    He should have to represent himself, He should have no right to legal counsel, no right to our tax dollars to support any part of his legal costs period. Commit a crime in another country and found guilty do the time, no option to have representation, if found guilty you are shipped back to your country to do the time in YOUR prison paid by your governments taxes. Just my opinion.
