Marijuana Tax on Ballot

Josephine CountyGRANTS PASS, Ore. — If recreational marijuana become legal in the state, Josephine County residents will have a choice on if it’s taxed.

Commissioners there have approved an advisory question be placed on this November’s ballot. The results will help guide county leaders on making policy changes if recreational marijuana is legalized However, commissioners say, the question is thrown out completely, if the proposed state measure is defeated.

Keith Heck, one of the Josephine County Commissioners says, “If the measure passes, the law passes in November, what do they want us to do?  Do they want us to tax marijuana? Not tax marijuana? If the measure fails, obviously this all becomes a moot point.”

Any potential tax must be approved by the voters due to terms in the Josephine county charter.
