Man Injured in Merlin Shooting IncidentNEAR MERLIN, Ore. — Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing an investigation into a Friday night shooting at a Merlin-area residence in Josephine County.

One person received a non-life threatening injury and OSP is asking for the public’s help to find the homeowner who left the scene before officers arrived to investigate.

Officials say at 11:30 p.m. Friday, OSP troopers and Criminal Investigations Division detectives responded to a reported disturbance and shots fired on the 6000 block of Monument Drive near Merlin. Investigators say several adult males drove to a trailer residence and made contact with the owner, Dennis Allen Smith. Smith is 65 years old.

Officers say a conflict ensued during which shots were fired in the direction of Smith’s trailer. One of the adult males outside the trailer identified as Grants Pass resident Matthew Roy Barbosa, 31, was struck in the leg and taken to Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass for treatment.

When troopers and detectives arrived at the scene, officers say all involved parties and Smith had left the scene.

OSP is now asking for the public’s help in finding Smith to hear his version of the incident. Anybody with information regarding his current location is urged to call the OSP Southern Command Center at 541-440-3333.
