JACKSONVILLE, Ore. — A Jacksonville man is in serious condition at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland after he was injured in a head-on crash Tuesday morning. According to Oregon State Police, at about 4:45 a.m., a 2002 Volkswagen bug driven by Paul Sage, 47, of Jacksonville, was heading west on Highway 238 when a Dave Williams, 41, of Applegate, was driving eastbound in a 1996 Ford Explorer crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into Sage’s Volkswagen.
Sage was initially transported by air ambulance to Rogue Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. He was wearing a seat belt. Williams, who was also wearing his seat belt, was checked at the scene by paramedics and was not injured.
Oregon State Police was assisted at the scene by Oregon Department of Transportation, Applegate Fire District 9, and Mercy Flights. The westbound lanes were closed for about 5 hours while and OSP collision reconstructionist assisted with the investigation.
