GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A man has been found dead after a boating accident in Grants Pass.
On Monday afternoon, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a boat overturned in the Rogue River upstream from the Robertson Bridge Boat Ramp. The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office Marine Deputy was at the Robertson Bridge Boat Ramp and sighted a life jacket, oar and thermos floating down the river. Upon contacting dispatch, he was told that they were receiving the call of an overturned boat.
The drift boat carrying three individuals was floating with a group of other boats and had become submerged. Two individuals were able to stay afloat and hold onto tree limbs until another drift boat was able to pull the two individuals into their boat. The man who had floated downstream, Geoffrey Lee Wood, was pulled to shore by subject boating with the group and was found dead.
The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by personnel from Rural Metro Fire Department, American Medical Response and Oregon State Police.
