MEDFORD, Ore. — A man is behind bars after assaulting, raping, and then sodomizing a woman Friday at about 5:00 p.m. Medford Police were sent to a report of an assault in the 1200 block of Sunset Avenue in Medford and when they arrived they spoke with the 30-year old victim who was at a neighbor’s house. She had several injuries, said Police.
The Police located the suspect, James Calvin Patterson, 38, at his residence, which was the same Sunset address. The investigation revealed that Patterson and the victim were involved in an on/off domestic relationship and Patterson had been arrested for assaulting her before. As a result, he had a court ordered “no contact” order against him.
Police discovered that on January 10th, Patterson became upset with the victim and began physically assaulting her by striking her with a hair dryer. Patterson proceeded to rape and sodomize her, and then strangled her until she became unconscious. Patterson then locked her in a garage at his residence by padlocking it from the outside. The victim was able to use tools found in the garage to break out some wood planks covering a broken window and escape. She ran to her neighbor’s house and then called Police.
Patterson is now lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of rape, sodomy, assault, kidnapping, and contempt of court. His bail is set at $3,009,000
The victim was treated and released from Rogue Regional Medical Center.
