Man Arrested for Crashing Car Into House

car into houseMEDFORD, Ore. — A Medford man is arrested for intentionally crashing his car into his ex-girlfriend’s house.

Police say 20-year-old Matthew Olivares was driving under the influence of intoxicants around 4 a.m. Tuesday when he crashed into the home at the corner of Stevens Street and Wabash Avenue. Officers believe he did not try to slow down or avoid the house, and think he was trying to hurt the people inside after a breakup with his girlfriend.

The woman and her two young children were inside the house at the time, but the children were not hurt. The woman suffered minor injuries.

“I think we’re very lucky that nobody was more seriously hurt,” said Lt. Mike Budreau of Medford Police. “With the vehicle striking the house at that rate of speed, you really never know what could happen and I think we’re lucky it wasn’t much worse.

Olivares is charged with assault, attempted assault, DUII and reckless driving.
