Man Air-Lifted Over Flu Complications

Flu VaccineMEDFORD, Ore.- A Medford man is air-lifted to a Portland hospital over complications from the flu. 32 year old Ryan Paxson had been complaining about flu symptoms for a few weeks.

His fiancĂ© says he woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t breathe. Mary- Catherine Allison says she rushed him to the a Medford hospital, but he was immediately flown to Portland. Doctors say his lungs collapsed and his kidney were failing. Ryan was then placed in a medically induced coma and diagnosed with H1N1.

Mary-Catherine says they did not get the flu vaccine this year. She says she and her husband did not believe it was necessary because they were young and healthy, until now. Portland doctors say this year’s flu is hitting young, healthy people pretty hard.
