Man Accused of Starting Grass Fire

ANDREW BERNTSENNEAR LANGLOIS, Ore. — Police arrested a Curry County man late Friday afternoon, accusing him of starting a fire on dry grass along the ocean shore in the Langlois-area.

Witnesses told police that 20-year-old Andrew Berntsen set the grass on fire with a lighter and then fled to a nearby home when he was unable to stop it from spreading.

Oregon State Police say Berntsen was booked into jail on charges of reckless burning and disorderly conduct.

The fire burned about eight acres before fire crews got it under control. OSP says the fire did not threaten any buildings.
