Local Teen Shines in Pear Blossom Parade

MEDFORD, Ore. — Thousands marched in the Pear Blossom Parade Saturday, but perhaps the most enthusiastic participant was Emma McCready. “I’m very excited! I’m very excited,” she said.

McCready has been playing music as long as she can remember, learning to play without sight through feel and pitch, but marching in a parade is a new experience.

“It was kind of a little bit harder at first, but then I just got used to it because I know the music and I know what I’m supposed to do,” she said. Her band mate helped guide her.

McCready’s music coach says she’s talented. “She happens to have perfect pitch. And that has nothing to do with, oh she’s blind her hearing is keen. She simply is very gifted musically,” said Mary Robison.

Emma says she plans to make good use of those gifts. “I just wanna do it all my life,” she said.
