CAVE JUNCTION, Ore — The Rough and Ready lumber mill in Cave Junction is nearly back at full production after going out of business recently. The owners, Jennifer and Link Phillippi, are hiring about 65-67 employees by the end of the month, but that’s less than the 85 to 90 employees they had before closing. However, they said they’re hiring more technical, higher paying positions.
Timber is vital to the economy and Rough and Ready is one of the few family owned lumber companies left. The mill is finishing construction and hirng now and expecting to be up and running fully by late July.
Tonight on NewsWatch 12, find out how the company got the funds to make this big comeback and what it means for the local economy.
