Local Fans Get Excited For World Cup

WORLDCUPWATCHER

MEDFORD, Ore. –  Though the USA vs. Ghana game happened more than 6,000 miles away in Brazil, local fans were finding their own ways to watch the United States take the win today.

Local bars and restaurants like Buffalo Wild Wings in Medford saw a spike in business on Monday afternoon as the United States soccer team played its first game.

Whether they came out to watch the game by themselves or with friends, fans say it’s important to get behind their teams. However, not everyone agrees, and in a recent poll taken by Reuters,  only one in three Americans plan to follow the World Cup this year. Even so, fans and businesses alike say that have seen more interest in the World Cup this year compared to years past, and fans say it is because soccer is becoming more prevalent in the United States.

Fans also say they come out to show support for one of the biggest sports in the world, and it’s a good way to connect with others.

“It’s such a beautiful game that no matter where you’re at, it’s going to become the most popular, just because so many people can relate to it, and for so many people, it’s a common language. and eye on the world cup, people can all unite through soccer, and it’s proven that throughout the U.S.,” said soccer fan Jeffrey Turner.

With Monday’s U.S. win, businesses expect fans to be even more involved in the next game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
