SELMA, Ore. — A former personal chef for Shirley Temple is now cooking for firefighters in Selma.
Joe Tonna has also been a top chef in several resorts and restaurants. Tonna’s been making comfort food for the firefighters like prime rib and meat-loaf. He says after seeing crews come back from the fire lines, it’s gratifying to be able to cook a gourmet meal for them.
“Just gives them that little bit of home that they’re missing and we all do our hard work to make sure the firefighters are real happy, well fed and it makes a big difference we’re all just doing our little part,” Tonna said.
Tonna makes sure to include a lot of protein in the meals. He says firefighters are required to eat about 3,600 calories a day.
