MEDFORD, Ore. — Dozens of emergency agencies throughout Southern Oregon participated in a practice airplane crash simulation Thursday at the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport. A large bus with fake wings played the plane’s part of the scene. “The destination was Medford and it was coming out of Seattle,” said airport official Kim Stearns.
Smoke machines created a cloudy obstacle for rescue crews. Actors were the passengers on the aircraft. At least 55 people played a specific part in the crash’s scene. “It’s not just somebody laying there, but there’s actual visual context of what could be happening,” explained Stearns.
The actors were covered in fake blood and burns to make the injuries seem more realistic for the emergency responders.
