The Friends of the Ashland Public Library had their annual book sale and silent auction on Saturday. It’s the biggest fundraising event of the year for the organization, which provides most of the services the library offers.
This event is expected to raise several thousand dollars for the Ashland branch as closure looms in the distance.
“The funding for the county I believe would be running out next year, so they’d be looking at closing the branches, and then after that they’d be looking at closing the system,” said Friends of the Ashland Public Library president Amanda Casserly.
Casserly says the money from the event isn’t enough to save the library, but she’s hopeful a service district will be set up to provide dedicated funding to the county’s libraries.
That ballot measure is coming up in May.
