Legislature Protects Students’ Privacy

FacebookSALEM, Ore. — A bill now sits on the governor’s desk, aimed at keeping Oregon students personal information safe from universities.

A bill passed almost unanimously in the Oregon legislature this week, denying school officials the ability to access students’ social media accounts or passwords.

Some students say they are relieved they can keep their personal information to themselves. The bill does not prohibit schools from requiring students to friend or connect with them online.
