Lawmakers Consider Expanding Helmet Law

SALEM, Ore. — A new proposed law would expand helmet requirements for children.

The legislation would require children 18 and younger to wear a helmet when they are riding a bike, roller-skating or skateboarding. The current law requires anyone younger than 16 to wear a helmet.

Some parents agree helmet requirements should be expanded, but the leader of a bike safety group in Portland says the proposed law is going overboard.
