MEDFORD, Ore. — Millions of Americans are rushing to file their tax returns before the April 15 deadline. With just two days left, local tax agencies are extending hours, and seeing procrastinators coming in at the last minute.
Tax experts at Liberty Tax Service say most last-minute filers are scared to file because of the fear of owing money.
“Really they just need to get in here, see what the situation is because often it’s not nearly as bad as what they anticipated, sometimes it’s even fine, but if they do owe then we can help them make payment arrangements or explain to them how to make payment arrangements… really just don’t bury your head in the sand,” said Annette Holman, Liberty Tax Service owner.
According to the Internal Revenue Service, it has already received nearly 100 million tax returns, but officials are anticipating 35 million more will be filed by Tuesday’s deadline.
