EUGENE, Ore. — North Valley’s Venessa D’Arpino re-wrote the state meet record book on Saturday. The Knights’ junior won the 4A State Championships in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dash, setting a new meet record in all three. D’Arpino’s sweet of the sprints was just one of many North Valley highlights on Saturday. Her twin sister, Kerissa, finished in third in the 100 and in second in the 200 and 400, also beating the previous state mark in the latter two. For the Knights’ boys, Austin Neill anchored the 4×100 team to a state championship, then pulled off an upset out of lane 1 in the 100 meter dash. The North Valley boys finished in second in the team standings with 56 points, while the girls finished in fifth with 55. Their 111 combined team points were the best in the 4A.
Elsewhere, Hidden Valley’s Sierra Brown won the 1500 meter run, to go along with her 3000 meter championship from Friday. The Mustangs boys also took first in the 4×400 meter run. North Medford’s Halley Folsom was the other state champion from Southern Oregon on Saturday, winning the 300 meter hurdles.
