KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The control tower at the Klamath Falls airport will remain open. The tower had previously been on the list of possible closures due to forced spending cuts.
The FAA announced on Friday that it will proceed in closing 149 regional airport control towers. The plans involves closing the towers over a four-week period beginning on April 7th.
Critics worry shutting down the towers could impact safety, but the FAA says it will manage the system by reducing volume, not reducing safety. Air travelers heading to to major cities such as New York and Chicago could experience big delays during peak hours.
