Kitzhaber Approved For Speeches

SALEM, Ore. — A state ethics commission says, Governor John Kitzhaber can accept fees for delivering health-policy speeches.

The announcement was made Thursday, by the Oregon Government Ethics Commission, that the governor can earn outside income under a few conditions.

He will be allowed as long as he does it on his own time, does not use state resources and is not getting the opportunity to deliver the speeches solely because he is the governor.

A spokesman for Governor Kitzhaber says, the governor routinely was paid for speaking offers before his time in office, because he is a former emergency room physician and state legislator.
