Kids Learn Fire Prevention at Demo

Medford Fire MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford Fire kicked off fire prevention week with an open house event at fire station four near Table Rock Road.

The eventĀ  featured a number of kid-friendly activities like an obstacle course, a fire extinguisher demo and a live fire demo. Samantha Metheny, a fire inspector with the department, says roughly a third of all fires usually start in the kitchen. She says educating the community is a big part of keeping that under control.

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, fires cause around 2,600 deaths each year country-wide, which isĀ more than all natural disasters combined.
