GRANTS PASS, Ore. — Josephine County community libraries are in a frantic end-of-the-year rush to raise operating money for the rest of the year.
The community library receives no funding from the county general fund, so for the last few years has been on its own, seeking grants and donations from families, individuals and businesses.
Fundraising Coordinator Rebecca Stolz says the library group is also seeking long-term financial stability by creating a special library district.
“We’re just in the beginning phases,” says Stolz. “We held a series of four community meetings, to kind of get the community’s questions and support to see if they would be willing to support a library district.”
It would take about 8,500 petition signatures to make the November 2014 ballot. In the meantime, the libraries are seeking to raise $47,000 by the end of this month to fund operations for the rest of this year.
Donations can be made at any library, or at the libraries website online.
