GRANTS PASS, Ore. — A group of Josephine County Republicans are crossing party lines, putting their weight behind a local Democrat running for county commissioner. It’s a move that groups say they have never made before.
The Josephine County Republican central committee voted to support Bob Just, a Democratic candidate for county commissioner. Currently there are no republicans competing for that non-partisan office. Just is considered a more conservative candidate than his opponent, Cherryl Walker.
“The county commissioner race is a non partisan race but that doesn’t mean that ideas are not involved and principles aren’t involved,” Bob Just says.
The group says they were drawn to Just’s focus on individual liberty, private property and restrain of government bureaucracy on the federal and state level. Issues they feel will be critical in the coming elections.
