MEDFORD, Ore. — Cheerleading is about support; supporting the team, the community and each other. For South Medford’s Jessica Lewis, she’s the one in need of some support.
“I’m doing everything I can to raise money and just talking about it to people,” said Lewis, “I’m just like, this is weird. I might actually be going to London in just two months.”
Jessica was chosen from over 1,000 contestants for a spot on the All-American Cheer Team. On New Year’s, that team will represent the U.S. at the New Year’s Day Parade in London.
“I can’t even explain how grateful I would be,” said Lewis. “Just getting accepted to be an All-American, I was just like, ‘Oh my god, I got a medal.’ I was just freaking out. It’s just such an awesome feeling.”
The road to London is not paved yet. Jessica must raise over $3,000 to join the U.S. team.
“It’s definitely difficult to raise the money,” said Lewis. “We paid our first payment and we have the second one, which is due on the first of October. So I mean, we’re really looking for community support definitely.”
